It's real. He's legit recording in that studio in the Catskills. His GF on rhythm and backup vox, and Violet on keys. Not sure the rest of the band. But it's real studio time. That Ryan Adams session was a blown opportunity, but this one is on for real. He seems like he's in a really good place these days. Bearded and inspired. Hopefully we'll hear something this year.

Any kind of recording activity is good! Here's a link to the studio's website:

I guess they scrapped the Ryan Adams album? That got me stoked but I'll take anything at this point.

I just wish it was going to be like the album from 2006. Track for track it was so solid. Not to knock the acoustic stuff but I'm in the mood for some noise. It seems like just yesterday it came out.

How time passes.

The Ryan Adams session never even got off the ground. Word has it the first day Ry Ry got all salty that the L Headz were not exactly sober and shut it all down.

Here's an excerpt from a September 2014 Chicago Tribune article about the Lemonheads:

The band will tour extensively over the next few months (they're playing Wire in Berwyn on Friday and Oak Park's Oaktoberfest on Saturday). An attempt to make a new Lemonheads album, with Ryan Adams producing, fizzled out in 2012.

"It was … I don't know what it was," Dando says. "I didn't have the songs. Ryan's a great guy."

At some point Dando will return to the sophomore solo album he's been intermittently working on for years. The subject makes him squirmy.

"There's no way I can describe it right now, but with any luck it will be out soon. Next summer at the latest," he says. "I gotta put something out soon. I don't know if I can begin to talk about it. I have some songs, but they're really weird. I gotta get together with some people. I can't talk about this."

As The Lemonheads, Evan has been putting together a covers album that he says will be followed by what he calls a “real record” shortly after. “I’m just getting my feet back in the studio now,” he says. “That’ll lead to some recording right after the tour to do a real album.”

The follow-up to 2009's Varshons will be another covers album?

I've heard some of the cuts! They are so good, featuring Evan's voice which hasn't been done before. Very original takes on the songs as well.

Evan is one of the very few artists I entirely welcome a covers record from.

I liked Varshons, but I think it had a few misfires. This one sounds like it's going in the right direction. I'm all about it. Thanks for the insights.

Breaker Breaker by The Givegoods is such an awesome song, it deserves way more recognition.I have a feeling Unfamiliar may be one of the covers.... but I'm only guessing.I'm really excited about this album, sounds really cool.

I heard a couple of new recordings yesterday, which at least some of the current touring lineup are playing on, so I assume if released, it'll be as the Lemonheads. One VERY reggae track, reflecting the time he's spent in JA in recent years...

I'd listen to him cover Metal Machine Music. I was just surprised by the apparent production/release strategy.

He's mentioned the new covers album again here:

Frankly - I can't think of another artist that has consistently found and played so many interesting covers - he certainly made me a lot more open minded about listening and playing songs from a much wider field of music - sure Varsions had a few clunkers but overall I like his taste.

ED: Yeah, well I’m actually doing another covers record just for the hell of it. So, I’m just recording that now. We did a Lou Reed song. It’s real obscure stuff, so I think I might play some of those songs.

He is covering Metal Machine Music! Saints be praised!

And Willy Mason is playing on the album, so no hard feelings between Willy, Marciana, and Evan, I guess.

Does anyone know if he has a label to release this covers record?

I'd be satisfied if he did what Juliana does and release music through Pledge. JH is a true musik arbiter in the Kraftwerk sense - she treats it as a job and just gets on with it - I know Evan could never work that way but I like the way the Pledge platform works - I bought a dozen albums through it by sponsoring artists I have faith in.

Thats a great idea actually. I think it would be cool
too.Id like to see Evan have a website where you could buy merchandise (shirts, hats, patches
etc. from solo and The Lemonheads).I'd much rather know the money was going to him.

Does anyone know when the solo album or covers record is coming out? We need a bit more light in the world and record from the man now more than ever. Here's hoping soon.
