24th January 2001

Believe it or not, ex-Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando is slowly creeping back out of a deep, dark hole wedged in the far corner of rock 'n' roll obscurity to delight us once again with his charming visage. Yes, this February, the super-reclusive Dando, who fronted the Lemonheads until the band was dropped from Atlantic Records in the mid-'90s, will do a handful of solo-acoustic U.S. dates before heading over to the U.K. for a little more of the same. Supporting Dando on these dates will be Ben Lee and Ben Kweller. The last we heard from Dando was the Lemonheads' 1996 album, Car Button Cloth. Dando, who sported long hair back when it was cool, played a few low-profile and low-fi gigs in October, 2000 and thank heavens he's still pretty weird (see: his onstage self-baptism with Pepto-Bismol). In related news, according to a spokesperson, Dando is preparing to release a live album sometime in the middle of the year on Australia's Modular Recordings label. The live material will be taken from Dando's gigs this past October, and the album will likely also contain a number of country covers recorded in the studio. And shortly after the live record, we can expect to see a debut Evan Dando solo studio LP, which Dando aims to complete recording by mid-2001. He as also written some material with Ben Lee, Spacehog's Royston Langdon and long-time collaborator, Tom Morgan. In related related news, Dando is also an actor-he was in Reality Bites and co-starred in Heavy with Liv Tyler. Here's where you can catch Evan in February:
