Review of Lemonheads live at Festival Internacional de Benicàssim

6th August 2005

from NME

Evan Dando brought his revered band The Lemonheads out of retirement for a nostalgic set at the Benicassim Festival in Spain tonight (August 6).

Dando, looking fresh and fighting fit, has not released an album under The Lemonheads since ’Car, Button, Cloth’ in 1996. But tonight the three-piece delighted the huge crowd with a greatest hits set.

Among the highlights were ’Confetti’, ’Into Your Arms’ and set closer ’Rudderless’. He also took the time to play a track from his 2003 solo album ’Baby I’m Bored’ - ’The Same Thing You Fought Hard About Is The Same Thing I Can Live Without’.

Dando came on for the encore apologising, saying: “We’ve done all the songs we’ve rehearsed.” He went on to play a solo electric set, including covers of Gram Parsons’ ’$1000 Dollar Wedding’ and Mike Nesmith’s ’Different Drum’, which The Lemonheads released as a single in 1990.

The set was:

’The Great Big No’
’Hospital’
’Hannah And Gabi’
’Into Your Arms’
’Confetti’
’Favourite T’
’Down About It’
’It’s A Shame About Ray’
’My Drug Buddy’
’Big Gay Heart’
’The Same Thing You Fought Hard About Is The Same Thing I Can Live Without’
’The Outdoor Type’
’Bein’ Around’
’If I Could Talk I’d Tell You’
’Rudderless’

Encore:

’Divan’
’It’s About Time’
’$1000 Wedding’
’Different Drum’
’Alison’s Starting To Happen’
