Lemonheads live at Midnight at the Olympia, Dublin - February 1996

Review by Olivia O'Connell from Sorted Magazine

Its been a quiet number of years for the Lemonheads, with the silence broken only by a few tales of Evan Dandos antics with his celeb mates the Gallaghers. However, the band are back with a new line-up and were in fine form at the Olympia. Tonight they were promoting Car, Button, Cloth the follow-up to Cmon Feel the Lemonheads. The best songs of the night were Into Your Arms and My Drug Buddy.

The bands repetoire mostly consists of 3-minute jangly guitar pop, with the odd self-gratifying guitar riff. Evan, however, seemed to have lost the plot completely when left to his own devices, indulging in some over-the-top, over-long, experimental ... noise, really, but the crowd still loved it.

The audience was made up mainly of post-grunge slacker, with the odd poor unfortunate who turned up to hear Mrs Robinson, which they didn't play. A 45-minute after the support band finished was soon forgotten when the band finally took to the stage to an enthusiastic welcome. A good night was had by all, and despite rumours about Dandos drug abuse, he still remains, in my opinion, one of the finest songwriters of our time. Judging by the crowds reaction, I'm not alone.
