Evan Dando live at Renfrew Ferry, Glasgow- 27th April 2002
Review by Wendy Currie from The Reservoir
My mates and I went to see Evan Dando play the Renfrew Ferry as part of the Triptych Festival, April 2002.The doors opened at 7pm, however it was about 10pm by the time we got there! Too much partying going on before hand!
It was a Saturday night after all and we were planning on going to Alaska to see The Jengaheads afterwards - maybe not the best destination after an Evan Dando gig! Don't get me wrong Alaska was kicking as always, it was the gig that let us down. To be fair we were mad with it by the time we got to the Renfrew Ferry - which was pretty funny as the rest of the crowd were very subdued and chillin along with an acoustic Evan!
I have been a fan of Evan Dando and The Lemonheads for 10 years and I really like his music and had the gig been on a week nite then I reckon we would have enjoyed ourselves more.
Not sure about the start or the middle but the end of his set was good! No - seriously it was cool; Evan churned out all the good old happy-hippy songs from the past. I was expecting more new stuff but I guess that came earlier?! Highlights for me included - 'Frank Mills', 'Hannah and Gabi' and 'Dawn Can't Decide'.
I have seen Evan Dando and The Lemonheads several times in the past and have never been disappointed but I guess this Saturday nite, Evan just didn't float our boat!
